Tina Montagna-Tate is a nationally registered, board certified art therapist and a licensed professional counselor in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. After completion of her thesis, entitled, “Story Drawings: Using Art Therapy and Story Telling with Children,” Tina graduated from Hahnemann University’s Creative Arts in Therapy Program (now Drexel) with a master’s degree in 1996. She has served as adjunct faculty and is currently an Adjunct Clinical Instructor at Drexel, supervising graduate art therapy students and participating on thesis committees. In 2007, Tina was honored with the “Outstanding Art Therapy Supervisor” Award by the Delaware Valley Art Therapy Association and provides supervision to professional art therapists who are pursuing registration and certification.
With over 20 years in the field, Tina is a seasoned clinician with a wide range of experience. She has worked with individuals and groups from early childhood to late adulthood, in a variety of settings along the continuum of care. In 2000, Tina obtained post-graduate education and training in counseling and from 2001-2003, she worked in an elementary school in Hopewell Valley Regional School District as a school counselor. During that time, Tina also established private practices in both Pennsylvania and in Pennington, New Jersey, specializing in children, adolescents and adults.
Currently, Tina works with individual children and adolescents within a family therapy context, as well as adult clients, providing comprehensive support and treatment for emotional, psychological or adjustment related concerns. Areas of specialty include; anxiety, depression, behavior problems, school avoidance or refusal, difficulty in school, transitions, trauma, and loss and grief. Parent involvement and participation are key to the success of the treatment of children and Tina facilitates perspective-shifting, coping and cooperative problem solving, through therapeutic interventions, as well as parent consultation and coaching.
Tina lives in Bucks County, Pennsylvania, with her husband and their two surprisingly sporty children. She hopes to one day have the time resume working with pen and ink, watercolor and collage, but for now, she’s settling for learning the rules of baseball, working in an art journal and “helping” with school projects.
